Sharko!
The cats are costumeless because dressing up a cat just seems cruel, while dressing up a dog is FUN! for the dog, of course.
I want to tell you about Neko Case’s new single from her forthcoming record Middle Cyclone. For every blog post that mentions the song, five dollars is donated to Best Friends Animal Society.
There are several ways to donate money to Best Friends using the lovely Neko Case’s song. See Best Friends and this for more info.
You know, Neko the dog is named after Neko Case.

I finished Neko’s sweater in just a few evenings worth of knitting. I had forgotten how satisfyingly quick projects go with bulky yarn and large knitting needles. I used the DROPS Dog Coat pattern with Lion Brand Jiffy yarn. The pattern warned not to knit the belly harness too long because it would stretch. I, of course, did not listen. At this point the harness is nearly dragging the ground, but that is OK because Neko seems to love her sweater. She looks super cute too!
Neko’s sweater love is certainly enough to make me want to knit another one in a nicer yarn.
If I make another sweater with this pattern, I will wait to do the crochet edge stitch until after the belly harness is attached. That would allow accurate placement of button holes, which I was unsuccessful with the first time.
There has been a lot going on lately – painting a bedroom and a bathroom, working on holiday gifts, yard work, a new camera, etc etc.
Basil.
Yesterday Basil went for his three month check up post-radioactive iodine treatment. He gained an additional 1.4 pounds. This is fabulous news! Over the period of a year he went from 16 pounds down to 10 pounds and now post-treatment he is back up to 13 pounds.
The internal medicine vet was so pleased with his progress that she wants us to cut back on his food and she is OK with the fact that we discontinued the prednisolone (steroids) for his inflammatory bowel disease. Our primary vet recently switched him from prescription diet, which I was never pleased about feeding because the ingredients are so yucky, to Wellness Chicken canned food.
To sum it up: Basil gained weight, does not need meds currently and he is now eating a higher quality food.
