Memorial Day Weekend of Adventure, Pt. I

Posted by dixie on May 29 2009 | Photos, Random/ Life

We had a guest visiting last weekend so we packed a bunch of activity into just a few days.

First we went to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. I am so ashamed that in my nearly eight years of Austin living, this was my first trip to the Center. We missed the major wildflower outbreak, but it was still a very nice visit.

I was pretty much in awe of these giant coneflowers since I had never seen such large coneflowers before! After our visit to the Wildflower Center and feeling inspired, we went by The Natural Gardener. I was so excited to find giant coneflower plants for sale. Of course, I had to pick one up, along with Gregg’s mistflower and silver pony-foot for the butterfly and hummingbird garden.

Back to the Wildflower Center…

This Harvard agave was pretty sweet. I inadvertently captured a bee in the photos.

After visiting the Wildflower Center and the nursery, continuing the garden theme, we ate at Eastside Cafe for lunch. I was inspired by a few of their new garden projects, particularly the cinderblock veggie gardens and this:

Howdy

There has been so much going on, and yet, I neglect to write about it. Life has a way of getting in the way of such things. An update in photos:

I expanded the butterfly and hummingbird garden in the front yard.

We saw Bill Callahan at Waterloo Records.

I even took a shaky and sometimes out of focus video of him singing the Kath Bloom cover “The Breeze/My Baby Cries.”

I finally put a second coat of paint on the bedroom walls and we bought a nice new bed. Sherman approves.

I don’t think the walls are really that bright, but I might be wrong.
