Andrew Bird

Andrew Bird at ACL

A few days ago, I saw that Andrew Bird was playing Austin City Limits. There was a contest to enter to win tickets. I entered and then asked Clint to enter. Well, Clint won two space available tickets! We spent yesterday evening waiting in lines and waiting around to see if we would make it in to see the show. There were benefits to having time to waste. We were able to eat at TerraBurger, which was delicious. Local, organic, compostable products, eco-friendly… that is just how I like my eateries. If only it were a drive through, it would beat out P. Terry’s in times of need for quick veggie burger and fries. After dinner, I found some Simple shoes for more than half off. Score!

Finally, we got in to see Andrew Bird. This was our fourth Austin City Limits experience but the first time we had to stand on the floor. It is hard to see when you stand on the floor. Clint was bored. I enjoyed it anyway. I think it will look pretty on tv so tune in. Hooray!

Mexican Plum

Mexican Plum

We bought this tree about two years ago. Had I been smarter, I would have spent the money on a larger tree. Instead, I bought a wee tree and get to experience the joy of watching my tree grow bigger and bigger each year. Anyway, the reason I purchased the tree was for its blooms, which did not happen last year. This year we finally got a few blooms. Hooray!

I was playing with the pinhole feature on my camera. Here is a shot of the Mexican Redbud.

Apparently I only buy trees of the Mexican variety!

Raised Beds

Poppies

I bought a few vegetable and herb plants last Saturday and then spent Sunday buying the materials and building raised beds for the plants. I realize that you are supposed to have the plant bed ready first and then buy the plants, but I never quite work that way. I know that Sue can relate to this. I am trying the square foot method of gardening and am not yet convinced that it will work. I guess I will find out soon enough.

So my veggies and herbs go in the ground and then we have this crazy 40 degree cold snap. Hopefully my plants will survive the wind, rain, cold, dogs, and later in the year, heat, to produce food that we can eat!

Rather than show you the beds that we built, I am sharing a photo of poppies taken at the community gardens where I bought the veggies and herbs. I adore poppies, especially red poppies.
