I do not have much to talk about lately. I could tell you about the vegan eggnog cheesecake I made on Christmas Day, but there is not much to tell. The cheesecake was heavy on the eggnog and it tasted fine. We ate all but one slice. Clint ate it too, so that should tell you something since it was made with a lot of tofu and soy products.
Yesterday we frosted the lower panes of the living room windows because Sherman and Callie would sit on the sectional sofa and look out the window. Often a neighboring cat (there are three to four of them) would enter our backyard and make the dogs go absolutely ridiculously crazy. Sometimes Sherman and Callie would get into minor squabbles over which one should be able to stand in the window and bark at said cats (even though there was plenty of room for both of them in the window). After months of excited exclamations of “Cookies!” which drew Sherman away from the window but did not eliminate the problem altogether, we frosted the windows.
I know you are supposed to train dogs not to do the unwanted behavior rather than take drastic measures, but sometimes drastic measures are the best option to save your sanity. For example, Sherman used to get into the garbage when he first came to live with us. We bought a garbage can with a lid that locks. Problem solved. Sanity saved.
I am not going to make any resolutions, but I am going to have faith that in 2009, things will start to get better. Not just for us, but for everyone. We have Obama coming in to get us off to the right start.
Last night, Clint and I met Sue and Brian downtown for First Night festivities. Then we went bowling. I think we ended the year/started the new year right by bowling with friends.
2009 will be great! If for some reason 2009 does not treat us right, I am just going to give it the same look Basil is giving Chim Chim in this photo. That should make 2009 shape up its act.
(The truth is… the look did not make Chim Chim move, which is what Basil wanted. Still, it is a good look.)
