Forrest’s Future

Posted by dixie on Aug 27 2008 | Animals

He’s going to Best Friends in Utah. We recently watched Dogtown and while it was incredibly sad to watch parts of it, those people and that sanctuary are amazing. AMAZING. Anyway, the next episode airing features the Vick dogs that went to live at Best Friends. Since we do not have the National Geographic Channel, could someone watch it for me, please? I will have to wait for DVD.

9/1 Edit: He actually went to a rescue group in Missouri. Best Friends helped transport him.

Here’s the news article about Forrest’s release, which includes this craziness, “In the future, the city likely will continue to ship non-violent pit bulls out of state rather than euthanize them as it has in the past, Kelley said.”

It’s a start, I suppose, and better than a kill them all mentality.

What could be better than Sherm’s high five? It looks like Forrest has been saved!

Cracked

Jail

About two hours ago, I sat down on the edge of the bed to watch part of the DNC (despite my disgust with Denver right now) and the bed broke. Yep, a board cracked in half and down I went to the floor. I think the bed was trying to tell me something.

We moved the sofa bed from the guest room to our room. We shall see how that goes for a while. Depending on how we sleep, we might have to buy a new bed by week’s end.

What else is new? Most importantly, Basil is home! His treatment went well and he was very happy to come home. We wait for a month or so and then we do some bloodwork to see how everything looks.

Sue sent me an email on Saturday to let me know about the bamboo festival. We stopped in to see if they had good prices on bamboo and we left with six plants. We bought the same two varieties of Bambusa multiplex that we planted originally, Golden Goddess and Alphonse Karr. Four will be planted against the naked half of the fence that backs to the alley, while the remaining two will probably be planted on one side of the fence towards the house. The plants are much smaller than the ones we have purchased in the past, but that is fine with me as long as they live. We spent a lot less on the small plants!

New plants mean we had to start doing the dreaded task of digging up sod. No fun.

But you know what is fun? The trick.

I Am So Controversial

Posted by dixie on Aug 22 2008 | Animals

Obviously, pit bulls stir up as much controversy as bamboo! I knew that already, of course. But wait! I feel even more strongly about pit bulls than I do about clumping bamboo!

I just thought I would make a touchy feely post since Callie is about two years old now. Back then, we did not go in search of a pit bull. Now I would do so in a heartbeat, but back then she was just a sick puppy who needed help.

Rescue Day Number One

Rescue Day Number Two

How could we give up that face or succumb to lame pit bull hysteria?

While looking for those photos, I found these. Neko and Callie were the same size! Callie looked so stocky.

Your Nose Is Yummy

Leapfrog

The End. I am an advocate for pit bulls because I know first hand what pit bull discrimination feels like. I also know first hand how lovable and goofy those damn dogs can be. My animals, all of them, are who I am.  Well, the animals, plus a little archivist action, plus a little crafty.

More on Forrest

Posted by dixie on Aug 21 2008 | Animals

Another article on the Denver dog, which has a little bit different information than what I have read so far. The dog is neutered and microchipped. Those two things would indicate that the owner is more responsible than many people.

And since I neglected to include the petition in my last post, you can sign the petition here. Psssst… the dog in the photo is not the dog in question.
