Happy Friday

Posted by dixie on Apr 27 2007 | Animals, Photos, Random/ Life

The cats did not eat contaminated food. Thank god. But Basil and Wembley have early signs of kidney disease so they have been switched to a kidney diet food.

If you are buying a house in the Sendero Hills neighborhood, know in advance that trying to get them to repair anything covered by your warranty is a huge pain in the ass and you will be very very frustrated. Maybe more details later.

Living with an alley behind your house is no fun, especially when the Super Happy Fun House moves in behind you and there are twenty children jumping on a trampoline and playing basketball Every. Single. Day.

Sometimes I regret buying a house.

But if we had not bought a house, we would not have found our doogies and we love our doogies.

Have a good weekend!

The Pet Food News Worsens

Posted by dixie on Apr 18 2007 | Animals

Our pet food was recalled this week, which is so super duper scary. Our cats were eating the Natural Balance venison product that was found to contain melamine.

As this article* points out, prior to this news, pet owners were feeling safe feeding foods that do not contain wheat. However, the Natural Balance product contains no wheat so they think that a rice product was tainted with melamine.

Clint ran home for lunch yesterday and removed the cats’ food and then went to the pet store after work to try to figure out what to feed our animals. The dogs were eating Natural Balance dry food but not the venison formula and the cats were eating Natural Balance wet food, also not the venison formula. Anyway, our pet food store pulled all Natural Balance products as a precaution so we are now feeding a combination of Eagle Pack Holistic Select (dry dog), Wellness (wet cat) and California Natural (dry cat).

Unfortunately, since the article I pointed to states that experts think that as many as five other foods could be tainted, I do not feel totally secure. This is really freaking us out.

This was the look of our cats yesterday afternoon as they waited quite impatiently for Clint to come home with their food.

*Grrr… The site is requiring registration, which is annoying. If you do a Google News search for “fears grow on pet food sacramento bee”, you probably will not need to register to read the article.

MurphAngus, Dog Walks and Flea Markets

Posted by dixie on Apr 10 2007 | Animals, Photos, Random/ Life

The good news is that MurphAngus has found a new home where I think he will be loved. Someone at work was really excited about adopting him. He spent the weekend with them and when I talked to her yesterday, it sounded like a good fit. Yay!

The bad news is that giving up a dog, even after only four days, is very hard. A funny German lady told me, “It is hard but you must in order to continue.” To continue my rescue mission? I don’t mean to find the dogs. It just happens.

In other dog news, we will be walking Callie in the Mighty Texas Dog Walk. My day job is a sponsor. Hooray! I wish Neko could go too, but she would freak out with all those other dogs. Neko does not play well with others. It took her all four days to get to a point where she tolerated MurphAngus.

Last weekend Clint went to Santa Fe, NM while I went to a big flea market an hour or so from Austin.

MurphAngus

Posted by dixie on Apr 05 2007 | Animals

We thought we may have found Murphy/Angus/MurphAngus a home, but unfortunately it did not work out. We have ads out all over the place, but no one has claimed this sweetie yet. He is a really really cute dog and very well-behaved. I am not just saying that, I swear. He rarely barks. He is not housebroken, but we are working on that. He will also be neutered soon.

Someone please adopt him before I get attached!

He plays well with others!

I promise he will make an amazingly good pet.

Found Another Dog

Posted by dixie on Apr 02 2007 | Animals

Last night on our way home from the grocery store, another seemingly stray dog wandered into our lives. He was running down the middle of the main street in our neighborhood while cars passed on either side. He has no collar. We walked around the neighborhood asking if anyone knew where he lives. No luck.

I have checked the lost ads online and do not see an ad for him. We plan to take him to a vet to see if he is microchipped tonight. I seriously doubt he has been microchipped since he is not neutered.

The dog seems young and is a friendly, cute male. Since we rescued two other dogs in a similar manner within the past eight months, we absolutely cannot keep a third dog nor do we have the financial resources to foster him right now. Did I mention that he is super duper cute?

Surely someone knows of a responsible person who wants a sweet male dog! Please let us know if you or anyone you know might be interested, even if you can help foster him for now.

Found Another Dog

Three found dogs in eight months. East Austin sucks sometimes.
