Yes, there is more…

Posted by dixie on Mar 23 2007 | Random/ Life

There are SXSW stories, but it has taken me nearly a week to catch up on sleep and basic stuff so I have not felt like writing. I think the final count was 9 movies for me, 10 movies for Clint, 1 film panel and 10 rock shows for both of us. All that within a week’s time span while still working at least a few hours each day. I have been very tired this week.

I hope to vegetate a lot this weekend. I do not want to go to a movie theater nor do I want to see a band for a while.

SXSW All Week

SXSW All Week

This was the first year since moving to Austin that we were not planning on participating in any SXSW events. However, in an odd stroke of luck, Clint won platinum SXSW badges by entering a contest with the Statesman. Platinum is the highest level badge and gets you into everything! Apparently we might have to pay taxes on them, but we should enjoy them anyway, right?

Platinum SXSW Badges!

Do you like how we snuck the business name in there?

As of today’s count, we have seen five (Dixie) / six (Clint) movies and been to one panel. I am going to detail what we have seen below but I am no good at reviews so this is really just a rundown.

Friday was the opening night of the festival with the premiere of The Lookout starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. This was a nice Friday night heist movie with a bit of a twist.

We saw two very different documentaries on Saturday.

Confessions of a Superhero Basically a movie about individuals who make a living by dressing as superheroes and working for tips on Hollywood Boulevard. This one was a little bit long, but we found ourselves caring about the stars of the documentary. Plus, the still photography is freaking amazing. When we were leaving the movie, Alex Borstein (aka Ms. Swan) was coming in to buy t-shirts from Mondo Tees.

Fall From Grace A very disturbing and sad movie about Fred Phelps and his insane small-minded family. The film was originally a student project that grew much larger. This is quite a good movie, but do not watch it if you feel depressed about the world because it will make you even sadder.

Grrrr… I wrote a lot more and it was eaten! The rest of the entry will have to wait. SXSW music starts tomorrow. I am looking forward to Beirut and Peter, Bjorn and John.
