Dog Dog Dryer Dog

Posted by dixie on Aug 21 2006 | Animals, Crafty, Paper Goods, Random/ Life

The dog is a wee bit of a handful. She is a teeny bit crazy, but boy is she cute. See for yourself:

Happy Neko

She is getting along OK with the cats. She likes to smell their butts and she tries to play from time to time. They don’t quite understand her idea of playing and it freaks them out a little.

I have never had a female pet and our male cats are all neutered. The whole not spayed and in heat thing has been quite, er, troublesome. She will be fixed and microchipped as soon as possible.

At least I have an amusing story about the whole female thing. We found her the day before I left for D.C. I noticed that she was bleeding. It looked like she had blood in her urine. I didn’t think her female parts quite looked right, but what did I know? I started freaking out thinking that she had something terribly wrong with her so I made an appointment for Clint to take her to the vet the afternoon that I left on my trip. Well… I guess neither of us knew what a female dog in heat looked like. We felt sort of dumb after finding out she was just in heat. She is a perfectly healthy dog.

Oh, and our dryer broke so we had to buy a new one last week. Swell.

Exciting Young and With It business stuff: We are going to the Renegade Craft Fair… via Crafters for Critters! Those nice folks are bringing our stuff along to help raise money for animals. Look for some chicken butts if you are going to be there!

New Addition

Posted by dixie on Aug 03 2006 | Animals, Random/ Life

Greetings from D.C.! I am at an archivist conference.

I popped in to let you know about the newest addition to our family. We found a dog running down our street on Monday evening. She was running up and down the road and on the hill and in the street. We tried to get her to come to us. At first she ran from us, so we stopped trying for fear of her running in front of a car. Then Clint put some cat food out since that was all we had for pet food offerings. I went outside to water the grass and saw her nearby. With much patience (20 minutes or so), she finally came up to me to eat. After a few more minutes, I was able to pet her. I snuck inside to grab our cat leash (yes, we walk our cats on a leash) and after another 15 minutes or so, I was able to get the harness around her neck.

As soon as we got her into the backyard, she completely warmed up to us and became super friendly and playful! So, it looks like we have adopted a dog. Clint named her Neko. She is in heat though so we will spay her as soon as possible. Watch her play with a sock.
