And Sealed!

Posted by dixie on Jun 22 2006 | Random/ Life

The floors are finished and we will be moving in this weekend. Hopefully the smell from the sealer will dissipate by then.

I am really happy with the way the floors turned out. I wish the stain had not screwed up our baseboards and cabinet, but we can fix that. Clint kinda wishes we had not chosen the border because he finds it a touch too fancy for us, but the border was created to disguise the holes from the carpet tacks so it serves a functional purpose.

Stained!

I checked on the floors last night and it looks like they are done staining but still need to seal the floors. Yay!

Cleaning

Posted by dixie on Jun 19 2006 | Animals, Random/ Life

We are super pooped after a weekend of cleaning and packing and moving small things. We cleaned out our scary garage yesterday. Apparently a cat had taken to hanging out and pooping in our garage. There are two openings where animals can enter the old thing. We threw a ton of stuff away. Thank god for bulk trash pick up this week.

The floors seem to be coming along fabulously… since we hired a professional concrete guy. As of yesterday all rooms have been scored (8″ border) and all rooms except the study have been cleaned super good. We think the contractor will be acid staining today or tomorrow and sealing the floors the following day. Yes, we are acid staining after all. We decided that we just could not handle the floors ourselves and that we wanted the floors done correctly. We can’t wait to see the end result!

Chimmy and Wembley are ready to move to the new house.

DIY Disaster

Posted by dixie on Jun 12 2006 | Random/ Life

A little tip: Don’t try staining concrete floors yourself, particularly if your house is new construction. The painters might have been unconcerned with where they sprayed the paint because they assumed the buyer would just love their wall to wall carpeting and who in their right mind would want to stain the concrete floors anyway?

Yes, paint everywhere. I have removed much of the paint by hand, but a huge amount remains. We have tried to avoid using paint stripper because of the toxicity. We hope to maybe find an environmentally safe one today because that is pretty much our last option unless the stain will take to the paint. This is possible because we are doing a solid color stain rather than the oh so popular acid stain.

Consider me exhausted.
