Industries Stuff

Posted by dixie on May 24 2006 | DIY Shopping, Paper Goods, Random/ Life

Yesterday I received an email from a mailing list talking about a new indie shopping blog called Modish. Imagine my surprise to see the chicken butt on there! They wrote a super nice entry about us! Rock!

For indirect business news, read this ReadyMade article about the men behind Etsy.

A bit of house news: A lot of things were not functioning and/or properly installed at the inspection – two gas lines, an open wire breaker for the dryer, air conditioning, I am sure I am forgetting some things… The inspector will need to come out again before closing.

I was searching and found a whole discussion board talking about the modern houses that are being built where we are buying. Thread A – Starbucks? Ugh. We are buying one of the inexpensive houses down the hill. Probably not the ones they are referring to… Old military housing was moved to the site. Still… Thread B – Talks about the prison and wastewater treatment plant.

We have been told that all three developments (traditional, mediterranean, and modern) will eventually be mixed together. For example, there will be traditional behind mediterranean with modern across the street.

These statements are assuming all goes as planned and we close on the house.

Even Closer

Matagorda County Birding & Nature Center

We have the inspection and final walk through on the house this afternoon. Craziness. It has happened so very quickly.

Here is a little bit of information. If all goes as planned, we are purchasing a green constructed home in a new development. Green should mean energy efficiency. The development also contains some really awesome modern houses. Those modern houses are what started us on the home buying journey. In the end, they were just too expensive for us, but we decided that buying a house was still a good idea.

We are hoping those modern houses help ours appreciate quickly and after living in 1940s and 1950s places for the last 10 years, we are ready for some energy efficiency. A dishwasher! A garbage disposal! A refrigerator that is not 20 years old! I really am going to take a picture of our rental refrigerator before we move. The thing is frightening.

I am still a little superstitious so that’s all for now. I hope to have a story of a cat and a mouse for you soon.

One Step Closer

The appraisal has been ordered on the house. We have a copy of the contract. Things are moving.

This is where I go lately on business trips.

House Stuffs

Posted by dixie on May 14 2006 | Random/ Life

So here is the house update…

We put in an offer on May 1st. The builder/seller was really really slow so the offer was not accepted until the evening of May 10th. Well, as far as we know, the offer was accepted. No one has seen the written contract to confirm that the offer has been officially accepted.

The builder/seller being so slow may have caused our interest rate to go up slightly because our rate was not yet locked and interest rates increased late last week. We are pretty irritated with the builder/seller’s slowness, particularly if they cause an increase in our mortgage payment due to their irresponsibility.

Oh, and the house was supposed to close on May 30th but because of all the crazy delays our closing may get pushed back – if we go through with the deal.

Basically we should have some answers tomorrow. That’s what they tell us.

The End.

At Least I Returned My Overdue Library Books

Posted by dixie on May 05 2006 | Animals, Photos, Random/ Life, Weather

Library books are just about the only thing I can cross off from the list below.

I really have nothing else to add because I fear talking about the house situation in case it falls through.

Oh, there was a storm last night complete with M&M-sized hail.

Tucker!
This is Tucker. He lives next door and we like him a lot.
