The past week will come in chunks…
Last Tuesday we arrived in Dallas to see Belle and Sebastian and The New Pornographers. We rode a trolley…

Then we went to our hotel, which we loved…

We ended the night at the show. The show was good, of course, but I enjoyed the previous B&S shows at The Backyard in Austin a bit more. I like the outdoor, big open feel of The Backyard. The highlight in Dallas might have been a weird Devo-esque dance number with Stuart and Stevie Jackson. There was a lot of Stuart dancing, which the paper in Austin described as like that of a hyper four-year-old, but I like to watch him dance.
The New Pornographers were very good. Carl Newman’s niece, Kathryn Calder, sang the vocal parts (yes, even Neko Case’s parts) very well. Clint enjoyed The New Pornographers more than B&S. Apparently, when they played in Austin the following night, Neko Case sang with them. We missed that. Poo.
Highlights of the SXSW week to come: Dallas World Aquarium, SLGTM, The Hidden Cameras, and Camera Obscura.
Sad things we missed during the SXSW week: Wayne Coyne rolling down 6th Street in the giant ball, Neko Case with The New Pornographers, the Magic Marker Records day party that was rained out (no Tullycraft – poo – although at least I watched Sean Tullycraft play with dirt and throw rocks at the Merge Records day party), and The Gerbils/Orange Twin showcase.
