The Weekend in Four

Posted by dixie on Jan 30 2006 | Animals, Food, Movies, Paper Goods, Random/ Life

I spent some time yesterday updating the mini site for Young and With It Industries. It might be weird that it is in blog form, but I wanted it to be more than the sterile page that it had become and blog form allows updates! I can’t promise that I won’t post a form of the updates here too, particularly new designs.

We watched The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill on Saturday. What is up with us and sad bird movies lately? The movie was super good and we really liked Mark Bittner’s philosophies about birds/animals, but the scenes with Connor nearly did us in with sadness. I think I would like to read Bittner’s book now.

We picked up new music. Cat Power’s The Greatest (the packaging is so shiny!) and Karl Blau’s Beneath Waves.

We ate at a new place, Boomerang’s. It was yummy!

One More!

Yesterday I neglected to mention my trade with Jennifer of Textile Fetish. I scored one of her awesome knitting needle rolls. It’s all pretty with black and white flowers on the outside and lavender and an atomic print on the inside. Most importantly, it holds my knitting needles all nice and keeps them safe! Yay!

Behind the Scenes

Posted by dixie on Jan 27 2006 | Crafty, DIY Shopping, Paper Goods

We have goods up at Plain Mabel now! We are really excited about this gig because we love us some Plain Mabel artists and their goodies.

More consignment news to come in the future. I am trying to balance our little business, my day job, working out, and fun stuff like knitting and reading. It’s hard sometimes but I am trying to devise a plan to make it work better.

I intended to take pictures of some stuff I purchased/traded recently, but I did not get to it, so instead I will just list the goodies:

I bought some super pretty yarn from Mary Jane’s Attic. I can’t wait to get to work on a scarf with the yarn. There are three skeins of complementary fibers in variegated pinks, yellows, reds and oranges. Jamie, the super nice gal who runs Mary Jane’s Attic, also threw in some pretty and super soft light blue fluffy yarn and some cute little mushroom stitch markers. Nice!

Then I traded with The Crafty Scientist. Only I haven’t mailed my end of the bargain yet (see above note about balancing), but the super nice Dayna, aka the Crafty Scientist, is very understanding. She sent me a pomegranate soy candle. The catch is that the candle is in the most adorable tiny beaker… because she is a scientist you see. It smells amazing. She also sent some soap (Earth and Sky) to try out, but it smells too good to use. The soap is currently sitting here next to me fragrancing our office/craft/music room. Mmmmm…

Before the holidays, I ordered Scrabble stitch markers from splityarn. These were for some of the folks in my knitting group at work. The super duper Caro added an extra stitch marker for me! Yay! I used it when I knit the orange hat for Clint – the hat that came out too big and needs to be redone. Caro sent her “Thanks for your order” note on this great little fabric stitched note card.

Yay for indie businesses!!

P.S. I recently placed an order with kpixie and I have to say, what a lovely experience. $5.00 flat rate shipping (I am a bit stingy when it comes to shipping rates) and amazingly quick shipping. I ordered last Thursday and it was here on Monday. Plus, a 10% off coupon for new accounts. Rock.

Dry Dry Dry

Posted by dixie on Jan 22 2006 | Animals, DIY Shopping, Paper Goods, Random/ Life, Rock Shows

Please help me will my clothes to dry so that I may put the next batch of wet clothes in the dryer and go to bed.

It looks like we will be visiting Dallas to see Belle and Sebastian. Darned SXSW forcing us to go out of town to see a band that is playing here in town the very next day. We have never been to Dallas – just Fort Worth. Hotel recommendations, anyone? Dallas is scary. It seems big and traffic-y and stuff. I think it will be a good show though, complete with The New Pornographers opening up. Wait, I know it will be a good show! There are not many bands that we will pay $30+ a ticket and drive four hours away to see. In fact, since moving to Austin, we have never left this city to see a rock show. If a band comes to Texas, they are most likely going to play here. So there you go. Fun times. I should probably just be happy that we will get to see Belle and Sebastian on this tour and not grumble about going to Dallas.

Hey hey, also on the news front, a new batch of Young and With It goods just went up at Crafters for Critters. The money from purchases supports nice animal rescue groups, so go buy up! There are some fun new cat toys that I am thinking about getting our cats.

In other business news, we are gearing up for several consignment gigs. Stay tuned.
