Randoms for Wednesday

Posted by dixie on Nov 30 2005 | Paper Goods, Photos, Random/ Life, Reading

I am attending another archivist conference this week. Yesterday I went to a workshop where I heard about Digital Asset Management Systems and metadata. Saturday will be more talks about DAMS. This is quite appropriate since our collection references dams. yuk yuk.

In other nerdy archivist news, I am currently reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. The book is all about archives, libraries and Dracula. Yep yep.

My favorite song right now is the Shins cover of “We Will Become Silhouettes” by the Postal Service.

Thanks to Ms. Betsy, I just learned about the Sufjan Stevens Christmas record. Old news for you? Perhaps. News to me.

Do you find this packaging as adorable as I do? Clint designed it for our little gnomes. The term gnomepads was even his idea. These little gnomes are being mailed off to a store. Hopefully they will find many happy new homes.

I Feel Like a Printing Press

Posted by dixie on Nov 25 2005 | Crafty, Food, Paper Goods, Photos

We have been working hard this holiday weekend.

To bring you a new card design for the holidays.

As well as the tulips in revised colors.

(The tulips have never actually sold, but I quite like them so I keep printing them. I am also quite fond of the new shades of colors.)

Do not fret. We did not forget to eat our Thanksgiving meal. Here are photos of Clint whipping up the potatoes and the cooked tofurkey. My favorite part of tofurkey is eating the leftovers on a sandwich with vegannaise. Mmmmmmmm… I had leftover stuffing for breakfast today.

Happy Anniversary!

Posted by dixie on Nov 22 2005 | Photos, Random/ Life

Sunday was our one-year wedding anniversary! Yep, already.

We had a very nice day. The weather was splendid, really super perfect. You may recall that last year it poured and we were sad because we were supposed to be married outside and we could not be wed outdoors due to the torrential rains… Well, if we had simply waited a year, we would have had perfect weather.

So, we decided to reenact parts of our wedding day, such as the gazebo where the wedding should have taken place:

We spent a portion of the day going on the East Austin Studio Tour, where we saw a load of inspiring art and Clint decided that we should move to East Austin.

The evening was spent having a nice dinner at Eastside Cafe, which is the same place we ate after our ceremony last year. Clint made a friend named Bruno:

After dinner, we went to see Harry Potter. I drank some butterbeer. Yum!

Most importantly, we had fun together on our anniversary!

More pictures!

Stitch 2005

Posted by dixie on Nov 18 2005 | Crafty, Photos, Random/ Life

We had a lot of fun at Stitch. The place was freakin’ packed. We learned that next year we should arrive promptly at 7 pm, shop, leave to get dinner and then come back for the fashion show. It was really hard to shop with so many people in there. I was very excited to see Supermaggie’s work in person. Although due to pushing, bumping, crowding and my own indecision, I did not purchase from her booth.

A scene from shopping:

More craft and fashion where that came from…
Marisa also took a bunch of photos. Jennifer took a few photos too.

My purchases included a necklace from Lemonade Stand Designs and hair ties from Hezza+Made:

I also put up photos from last year’s Stitch. You can find those here.

In non-Stitch purchases, I bought a pretty necklace, Flor blanco, from CCJewelry. I seem to be on a jewelry kick.

Lost Dog

Posted by dixie on Nov 14 2005 | Animals

Stitch was fun! I bought some things! More on that later – with pictures?

Before Stitch, I decided to go get some coffee because I knew I would be up late. Only I never made it to coffee. On my way, I saw a young black lab running around a main street with buses and lots of cars. So I stopped to try to grab him/her and get the dog out of the road. Another lady stopped and we tried together, but we could not catch the dog. The dog ran every time you got near him/her. The lady left, saying there was nothing we could do. I kept trying, then a man stopped to help, but still no luck. I lost count of how many times cars slammed on their brakes because the dog ran in front of them. See, it was dark by then, the dog was black, disoriented, and running all over the place.

I went home to get Clint and we tried to catch the dog. No luck. Finally the dog ran to a church and laid in the grass. We took the dog some water and then we called animal control. I checked around midnight, after Stitch, and the dog was gone. I hope the dog is safe. We hated to call animal control, but it was an evil choice between the chance the dog would get hit by a car and getting the dog to a shelter, hoping either its owner found him/her or that a rescue group would pick the dog up.

Poor pup. I hope he/she is safe today.
