Random Stuff

* There is a new series of Poketo wallets. I seem to be more excited by the new girls tees than the wallets this go round. I like the Omar Lee and Susie Ghahremani tees a lot. Oh, if you are in Austin, the last time we were in Waterloo I noticed they were selling a pretty good assortment of Poketo wallets.

* Thanks to Janice over at Copacetic/Copacetique, I learned that Amy Sedaris was going to be on Todd Oldham’s Handmade Modern last night. Wow, those segments fly by! I liked the show though and I am sorry that I missed the first 3 episodes. The last one airs tonight.

* I went to the orthodontist yesterday and not only do my teeth hurt real bad but a wire is poking me already. That means my teeth are moving fast fast. Ouch.

* I have given up coffee this week. For no reason other than I decided I was tired of the taste of coffee. I have been drinking yerba mate and chai instead of coffee in the morning. So far I have not really missed the coffee. I might treat myself to an iced mocha this weekend. I would like coffee drinks to be a treat rather than a necessity. We shall see how long this lasts.

* Today is day number two with a high below 90. Sweet.

Not to Make this All About the Weather

Posted by dixie on Sep 29 2005 | Weather

But… after 8 record-breaking days above 100… finally! Finally! A high in the low 80s today.

I better break out my sweater for this cold front!

Giddy

How excited was I to open Etsy this morning and see that our Sweater Weather Stationery Kit was a featured item?! Well, very.

Update: The item sold and there was only one. So no more featured item, but yay for selling!

Yikes!

I have been inside all day watching bad tv (Justine Bateman movie!), cleaning and what not. I kept thinking that geez it was really hot. But I knew the air was turned down pretty low. So I decided to check the outside temp. 107. I am not kidding. I checked three different sources.

107, a record high. Cripes.

Emergency Room, Hurricane, Road Rage.

Posted by dixie on Sep 23 2005 | Random/ Life

You get the idea. It has been quite a week.

I keep encountering stupid road rage people everywhere I turn. Twice this week, dummies refused to let me merge, forcing me to either act out as an aggressive driver or timidly sit to the side waiting for someone to be nice and let me in. The one ass-wad who forced me to act out also pulled in front of me and slammed on his brakes… on the highway… with a large bus behind me. And let me just emphasize here – we were originally in traffic that was crawling at maybe 5mph when he was not letting me in. There was a nice space where I could merge until he sped up and sat in my blind spot, and then continued to pull forward in my blind spot with the traffic. I forced my way in since he was being an ass-wad and that is apparently what pissed him off. Or maybe it was flipping him off (yes, stupid on my part but I was pissed he was being a total ass-wad). Did I mention that after I was forced to push my way in aggressively, he was sitting there waving obnoxiously in my rearview mirror? That’s why I flipped him off. And of course, said ass-wad had a George W. Bush sticker on his car. It figures.

I guess with people evacuating to Austin to escape the hurricane and with no gas and all of the craziness in Houston, people are a wee bit wound up around here when it comes to driving. I am taking back roads to work for a while to avoid the crazy aggressive drivers.

And then there is the emergency room. Clint cut the side of his thumb off yesterday. I had been at work, oh, maybe fifteen minutes, when he called asking me to take him to the emergency room. Man, it would not stop bleeding. Ick. So we sat in the emergency room for several hours and Clint got two stitches and a tetanus shot. Ouch.

Let this be a lesson in safety while using an Ex-Acto knife. Be very careful.

And yet, somehow he managed to not get any blood on the paper he was cutting with the Ex-Acto knife.
