Rock and Roll

M. ward from earlier this month.

Last week’s Chronicle again stated that Bill Callahan of (Smog) fame is living anonymously (I believe that was the word) in Austin. Clint insists he sees him about town. We thought that we saw him at a show last year before word was out that he was living here. Only the guy was not dressed in (Smog) fashion. Is that what anonymous means?

Shop for Charity!

Posted by Dixie on Apr 20 2005 | Animals, DIY Shopping

The newest Crafters For Critters, a handmade fundraiser to benefit Greyhound Protection League, is up. Yay! I purchased an owl tie and a greyhound pin because you know how I heart pins by Happy Owl Glassworks. (I’m amassing a collection and I cannot forget about the otter pin over at Plain Mabel.)

Go shop quick! Things are going, going, going.

P.S. Happy Birthday, Mom!

Gnooooooooomes!

Posted by Dixie on Apr 14 2005 | Animals, Crafty, Photos

Tonight my crafty group is painting gnomes. Oh glee!

Wembley the cat is milking this whole guilt thing. See, he decided he no longer liked the dry food (Natural Balance) that we were feeding them so he gets to try out an organic cat food and thus far seems to like it. Castor & Pollux has really cool packaging that suckered me in the first time I saw the display at Whole Foods. They even have cute little eggplant and carrot catnip toys. Wembley loves the treats that they make so we are trying the dry food.

Disclaimer: I am feeling a little overwhelmed lately. See, I’ve got lots happening at work that keeps me busy, I have volunteered to help out a local non-profit with the creation of a database in my spare time, and I put self-imposed pressures on myself to make stuff and update this here website. I will make it through, of course, but these are the reasons for sporadic posting and a lack of timely response to emails.

This is an equal opportunity blog, so:

Time Flies

Posted by Dixie on Apr 11 2005 | Animals, Photos, Reading

Last week we went to hear Sarah Vowell read from her new book, Assassination Vacation. She read about the Oneida community (the O.C.!!) and a trip to a bed and breakfast. I think this one will be a book on CD purchase eventually. She, like David Sedaris, is a book on CD kind of author. I lover her nerdy coolness.

In other big news, much of the weekend was spent worrying about Wembley the cat. He spent all day Friday through Saturday morning at the vet. He went in for routine bloodwork and urinalysis because we are monitoring his kidneys for signs of kidney disease. Apparently, he did not want to give up a sample for urinalysis so he had to spend the night at the vet. But we were also concerned because he had gotten into the habit of spraying many surfaces in the house recently and it had become very disconcerting and stressful. Well, as it turns out, the poor guy has a urinary tract infection and he was trying to tell us he did not feel good by spraying things. He is home now with antibiotics, and as far as we know, he has not sprayed anything since returning home.

Unfortunately, Wembley also lost 3 more pounds, taking him from a hefty 20 pound cat a year or so ago to a current 15 pounds. Sooooo… now the vet suspects hyperthyroidism, which is scary but treatable. His kidneys are the same as 3 months ago.

wembley
P.S. He is on a leash there, lest you wonder.
