Random Moment of the Weekend

Posted by Dixie on Mar 29 2005 | Random/ Life, Rock Shows

Checking out at Whole Foods, when the cashier asks, “Are you going to see M. Ward?” Me, totally taken aback, “Ummmm, yes, actually, we are.” Clint, equally surprised, “Do we look like M. Ward fans?” Cashier, “No, I’m just asking everyone and you’re the first ones who knew what I was talking about.”

Very weird and random but good random. He proceeded to tell us all about his interest in M. Ward. Nifty.

M. Ward plays at The Parish on Friday.

Freaky Storm

Posted by Dixie on Mar 26 2005 | Weather

That was one freakish hail storm last night. We happened to be watching a horror movie when golf ball-sized hail started pelting the house. It was scary. Wembley and Chim Chim climbed into a cabinet together and Basil ran to hide in the bass drum.

The Mountain Goats

Posted by Dixie on Mar 24 2005 | Rock Shows

We went to see The Mountain Goats play at Emo’s last night. A few notes:
- 4 hours of sleep sucks.
- I hate Emo’s. I hate Emo’s. I hate Emo’s.
- I can’t wait to vote on the smoking ban. Bring me my ballot.
- I saw some of the worst fashion I have seen in a very, very long time. One girl was a prime candidate for What Not to Wear. I will not be mean and post what she was wearing, but trust me, it was at least seven bad items all combined to make one bad outfit.
- Oh, you wanted notes about the music?
* One of the best things about a Mountain Goats show is the faces he makes while singing. We were too far away to really see those faces.
* It was packed.
* There is still good stage banter.
* “Dance Music”. I’m all over it when the new record comes out.

Why, Yes, Pink Eye.

Posted by Dixie on Mar 21 2005 | Crafty, DIY Shopping, Paper Goods, Random/ Life

It’s official. I have pink eye. I also now have eye drops to clear it up. I stayed home from work today so as not to infect others, which probably actually looked suspicious since I took most of last week off for vacation. Really, I do have pink eye.

At the end of SXSW, there was Flatstock where we viewed lots of keen silkscreened stuff and we even bought a few items – like a poster of a giant tooth (how appropriate!) from Ocho Loco Press, some nifty magnets from Leia Bell, and a test print from Denny Schmickle.

This is probably how the rest of my SXSW stories will come — in pieces.

Anyway, after seeing all the hip posters, I wanted to play with my wimpy little Gocco. And here’s what I produced:
