Numbers

Posted by Dixie on Feb 23 2005 | Crafty, DIY Shopping, Food, Knitting, Random/ Life

1. how is it that I forgot how good carrot cake can be? or maybe it’s just the icing that is so damn good.
2. we finally have a Central Texas Ikea update. word is that it will be 2007 at the earliest. poo (for so long from now) and yet yay (for a possible future Ikea within errand-running distance).
3. my mom got my apparent (but unintended) hint from back on February 8th and ordered me a Happy Owl ladybug pin. yay, mom! thanks!
4. I probably should not speak of this one. practical jokes are funny. haha. not fuel for temper tantrums.
5. warm weather = good stuff.
6. waiting for yarn for next knitting project = long, numbered lists on blog. I need steady knitting to make the math aspect of my brain happy.
7. I walked about 3 miles this evening.
8. the episode of Law & Order: SVU last night made me dream of ghosts. even though the ‘ghost’ on the show was a living person, the ghosts in my dream were of the wispy, transparent variety. they scared me.
9. I am now just finding things to write so that I can keep numbering. soothing, soothing math.
10. I can’t think of anymore but wanted to end with a nice, even number.

Blech and Double Blech : a movie review of sorts

Posted by Dixie on Feb 20 2005 | Movies

Last night we went to see Crispin Glover’s What Is It? I bought tickets for this way back in early October. The original airing scheduled in November was rescheduled for last night. I have never been offended by a movie like I was last night. I realize that this post is probably going to get me some hate mail, but I have lost all respect for Crispin Glover. I wanted to walk out early on, but I was afraid of making a scene. Clint did not realize that I wanted to walk out or else he probably would have taken some initiative to leave.

Some Points:
Killing snails with salt over and over again is not funny to me.
Racist songs are not funny, or even edgy, to me.
Glover’s sexual scenes with disabled people were not interesting to me. As Clint stated, it is not that disabled people being sexual is offensive, it is the way in which this movie portrayed it.
Apparently, we were in the minority, as the audience around us giggled and laughed at much of the movie. I wonder what Britt Daniel of Spoon thought about it? He was sitting in the front row.
Last night I read review after review to see if I was crazy and just not hip enough. Since I have no interest in doing a full on review, I will point you to some I found if you would like to know more about the film:

Clint and I have been tossing around the idea of buying SXSW film passes this year. One of the movies I originally wanted to see was Drop Dead Sexy with Crispin Glover and Jason Lee. Hmmmm… I think I might have to skip it just because I have lost ALL respect for Mr. Glover. I don’t think I am the only one. We left directly after the movie, without staying for Glover’s Q&A where the audience would likely have told him how brilliant he was for making such an ‘edgy’ film. As we were leaving the theater, I heard a woman asking for her money back because she had purchased two of his books before the film and had ‘changed her mind.’

I end this little rant with a quote I read in a review: “Maybe I’m just a square who isn’t hip enough to ‘get’ it.”

A Hip Gardening Book?

Posted by Dixie on Feb 15 2005 | Random/ Life, Reading

Why not? There are hip knitting books, hip crochet books, and hip crafty books. Soon, hip gardening: You Grow Girl: The Groundbreaking Guide to Gardening. I can’t wait!

Speaking of gardening, I hope to plant some tomato seedlings soon (think March ‘05) and I hope to document my garden better this year than I did last year. I kept taking photos last year but I neglected to post updates.

Sunshine!

Posted by Dixie on Feb 14 2005 | Weather

This has been a really overcast and wet winter. I definitely think I am prone to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), caused by a lack of sunshine. So when the skies turned sunny and warm yesterday, it was time to take advantage of the change. People were out everywhere you turned! Clint and I thought we were going to go for a drive in the hill country and then we thought, “ooh, even better, we will rent a canoe and go canoeing on the lake.” But then, we ate a really big lunch and it was so warm and sunny, we couldn’t move and lost all canoeing energy.

Canoeing will have to wait for the next break in wet weather. According to the forecast, we have two more days of sun and warmth and then the skies turn cold and rainy again.

Enjoy the Sun and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Yay!

Today’s Daily Candy features Happy Owl Glassworks. I have a Happy Owl pin that I adore! In fact, I wore it yesterday. I was hoping to get a Happy Owl ladybug pin in The Sampler this month but I did not. My Sampler rocked anyway!
