Teeth Cleanings aren’t Just for People
Wembley the cat is having his teeth cleaned tomorrow. We are super worried about this because he has to be anesthetized for the procedure. Tomorrow during the hours of about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., you will find me very stressed and probably cleaning house like a mad woman or something equally time consuming.
There is a story here. Our wonderful, fabulous former vet left our nearby veterinarian practice. When we took Wembley in to the new vet for his annual shots last month, his bloodwork showed an elevated kidney enzyme. This worried us. Additionally, we didn’t really like the new vet. Erm, maybe a better choice of words is that we didn’t really feel confident about the new vet.
I selected a new veterinarian office and we took Wembley to have follow-up bloodwork performed on Monday. The new vet’s recommendation was to first try having his teeth cleaned because he has a lot of tartar build up. She advised that bacteria in the mouth can travel through the blood and damage a cat’s liver, kidney, and heart. I came home and looked up a lot of info regarding the procedure and have now learned how important dental care is for dogs and cats.
So, keep your pet’s teeth healthy! And keep Mr. Wembley in your thoughts tomorrow.
