The Zombies
As promised, I added pictures from The Zombies show last weekend. The pictures may be viewed here. I seem to have taken quite a few pictures of Colin Blunstone shaking his head, which makes him look possessed. Woops. I have an aversion to using the flash. I also added a movie clip here. The movie clip needs some explanation. I did not realize my camera was set to x2 in movie mode. So the clip is fast and there is no sound. Had the movie mode been normal, you would hear The Zombies singing “She’s Not There”.
I want to give a mini show review. First, the crowd was mixed between generations. I think the age group varied from 19 to 55. The Zombies sang songs that spanned their career (Zombies and non-Zombies), from the 1960s to the current album (Out of the Shadows). There were Zombies songs, Colin Blunstone songs, Argent songs, and Blunstone/Argent songs. I can’t say that Clint and I cared much for the Argent or Blunstone/Argent music. There were a lot of keyboard (Argent) solos. It seemed to me, of the people we were standing around, the young crowd seemed more into the 1960s Zombies music while the baby boomers preferred the Argent and Argent/Blunstone music. Maybe I just imagined that.
Clint was unfortunately stuck behind a baby boomer with big blonde hair doing a Mom Dance. She had the affliction that many people have at rock shows. She kept backing up into Clint. He had nowhere to go, so he was stuck with big blonde hairspray head in his face. We amused ourselves during the unenjoyable songs by laughing at the people around us. Yes, we were mean. Clint made fun of the blonde Mom dance. We giggled at songs that we found to be pretty awful.
On to the positive. I think my favorite song was “I Love You” because Colin B. was still able to sing those feisty little “…and I don’t know what to say”. I also enjoyed “Time of the Season” and “She’s Not There” quite a bit. One of their encores was “God Gave Rock n Roll To You” (yes, the well-known Kiss song). That was pretty amusing… and good.
Overall, I had a pretty good time except for the cigarette smoke (why-oh-why couldn’t they pass that non-smoking ban?). I could have lived without all the non-Zombies songs but Colin B. and Rod A. are proud of them and that is important.
