Architecture, Design, Will I Ever Own a Home?
The design of this North Loop duplex has been calling to us since we moved to Austin. And now the Woodrow Duplexes (no pictures yet) are up about four or five houses away from the North Loop duplex. The duplexes live in the neighborhood next to ours. I drive past them nearly daily. We had been wondering who built them and I finally found the firm tonight – studio momentum – while looking at the city’s info on the Green Building Program. The residential prototypes from studio momentum are darn spiffy also.
And now I no longer feel superstitious and can explain last Sunday’s excitement/disappointment. We found out about this plan from the firm KRDB after recalling ReadyMade #4, featuring the Cedar Avenue homes. And we thought maybe, just maybe, we could own the “tofu” or the “wedge”. But then, we found out the houses would not be built – read all about it. View KRDB’s full portfolio here.
Anyway, all of this has started us thinking on new terms. Maybe we don’t want to buy a teeny, tiny old house for an insane amount of money in Central Austin (well, OK, we do prefer the Central Austin part). Instead, maybe we want to save (and save and save…) and buy a modern, sustainable/green-designed home.
A couple more nice sustainable design firms in TX: Lake/Flato and Pilgrim Building.
Wow, this was pretty link heavy.
