A Mini Rant

I have been experiencing some negative-ness from certain local small businesses lately. I will not name any names, but…

why is it that a small business feels that it is ok to act snotty towards their customers? see, a small business is just that, a small business. support of local clientele is important in the success of a small business.

I am generally a shy person but I have been trying to overcome this a bit lately and ask for help when I cannot find something that I am looking for.

This has backfired in my face twice in the past four days. Both times snotty salespeople either made snarky comments, “Well you should have bought it when you saw it,” or they just stared at me like I was an idiot.

I am tired of it.

I will do the majority of my shopping for a certain item online from now on and when in need of a certain other item, I will go elsewhere – to a different local small business that is quite successful and treats their customers with respect!

Grrrr….

End Rant.

Weekend, Weekend

Not much to report for the weekend.

I worked on Christmas gifts. I went to the Stitch ‘n Bitch and met three lovely ladies (and saw two lovely ladies I already knew, of course). I missed the Church of Craft meeting and instead watched three episodes of season two of Oz. The temperature dropped about 20 degrees in an hour or so yesterday morning. Clint and I ate at Satay. Why we never ate there before is beyond my comprehension. The food was yummy. I ate a dish with philippine spices and Clint even ate some tofu. Yep!

That’s about it.

New Bag

I went to the dreaded Urban Outfitters (where employees have attitudes, jeans cost over $100, and clothes do not fit normally sized people) after work yesterday and bought this bag.

Really, I deserved a new messenger bag and since I expected to pay nearly $40 for the bag, the sale price of $19.99 did make me smile. The decision between gray and that nice brick red was difficult, but gray goes with more clothing. I could have purchased two for the price of one! But really do I need two new messenger bags?

No, instead I added some cable knit tights to my purchase. Now, being a tall gal, I should know better than “One Size Fits All”, but I really wanted cable knit tights. So, since tights are not returnable (in my view anyway because you rip the package while opening them), I shall live with a slightly annoying fit. And to think I was really excited because if they fit well, I would go back for the red cable knit tights later.

Miniature White House

At work the other day, we needed to pick up something from the LBJ Library. So we took the opportunity to go see The White House in Miniature exhibit. The squirrels on the steps outside were disproportionately large compared to the scale of the rest of the house. And there were pictures of the current President (ooh, boo, hiss) in nearly every room. But it did make me want to live in the large ballroom with the twirling Christmas trees and grande piano.

I think I found the foot high plaster replicas of the presidents surrounding the bottom of the exhibit more curious than the doll house sized White House. Neither President Bush looked much like their human counterpart and baby Bush just looked really weird.

The day before this trip to the library, I had read an interesting article about Jacqueline Kennedy’s pink suit from the day of the JFK assasination. So I had to go look at the picture in the museum of LBJ being sworn in on Air Force One to see if I could see the blood splatter on her suit. I could not.

CNN and the F Word

I am happy to say that CNN was playing at my afternoon job and I was there to hear the original non-delayed feed of Jermaine Jackson say “fucking” without being censored. CNN may want to consider that seven second delay.

I think I need to go to work now…
