Wind Energy
I warned everyone that I was becoming more and more of a hippie-type as the days and years progress. I just signed us up for the Green Choice Program. I like wind turbines and electricity generated from landfills is kewl.

Tonight seems to be the night of excitement.
So… I am happy to finally write the following publicly. Back in July Clint submitted designs for Ladybug Transistor buttons and they advised that his design(s) had been selected. The selection has now been officially posted to their website (scroll down to the preorder offer to see the credit). Yay!
On the news, they just did a piece about a woman in Tarrytown (Austin neighborhood) who owns a shopping center and supports PETA. She will not allow her tenants to kill ants and a restaurant has to close next year because they sell meat. She is being called a militant vegetarian. Since I have been called a militant vegetarian for defending my beliefs, I find this amusing. I can see both sides. However, I must say that if she owns the building and she writes her criteria into the lease, then I think she has every right to say what can and cannot be done in her building. That is my two cents anyway.
Although… the piece stems from an ant problem and I should say that I work for a partially environmental agency and we had an ant problem that they tried to resolve peacefully with non-toxic killers. This went on for months. It became so bad that they had to take food out of the vending machines on the second floor. Well, if I recall correctly, in the end special permission was given to take drastic measures to remove the ants.
Ah, my love for Law & Order has just increased tenfold. Not only did tonight’s Law & Order: Criminal Intent feature an archivist, but the archivist was the killer. Yes! Way to kill that dowdy librarian stereotype.
This now rivals the CSI with the autistic librarian as one of my favorite episodes of tv.
Yesterday we saw the boat car from Waking Life. He went zooming by us on South Lamar. Seeing him prompted Clint to ask, “Do you think he always wears that Hawaiian shirt and hat when he drives the boat car?”
We saw the boat car man after visiting moxie and the compound. I had seen their material at a couple of the first thursdays. Yes, they have some really great stuff. The little kids western dresses in mod designs, the pillowcase skirts, the felt photo frames, the nice silkscreened photo books, etc. But… they are incredibly pricey. I just have to wonder who their typical customer might be. I would think it might be other DIY crafters like myself. Well, I go in there and I think, “wow, this is all really, really great and I might be tempted to buy some of it if a pillowcase skirt were not $32, a cute little kids western dress $58, or a cute photo book $28.” Instead of purchasing items, I think “hmmmm, this has given me some great ideas… I can go home and make myself a pillowcase skirt for oh, $5 or so.”
so there. The store has great stuff, but… the price tag is too high for me and I would think it is too high for most others drawn to that sort of stuff. But hey, what do I know?
We also saw the mountain goats last night. I enjoyed the show, but Clint kept getting bumped into by a very drunken girl. I like to watch the faces that mr. mountain goats makes while singing. They had a good crowd.
As the days/years progress, I realize how much of a hippie-type that I have become. The most recent revelation came with the arrival of the pamphlet for the Green Festival that will be here October 11th and 12th. I became really excited about “natural home”, “natural food cafe”, “organic beer garden”, etc. I do not even drink beer really, but anything organic/natural gets me excited. So many exhibitors and speakers. Gosh, I cannot wait.
See how nerdy I am.
Mountain Goats tomorrow. Those mp3s will only be available for a few more days. Get ‘em while you can.
