I feel very chatty today. Was it the coffee this morning, my late afternoon ice cream, or the feeling of being all alone? Today is Clint’s first day at school far away (well, not that far, but far enough).
Since there was mention of Lamar in the comments, here is a jewel for those living in Austin or those familiar with Austin roads. I was driving home north on Lamar somewhere between 24th and 29th streets. 5:00 traffic. Suddenly I see a man in a wheelchair barreling southward down the hill towards oncoming traffic. He is riding on the right side, in the northbound traffic lane. Even with a large city bus in that lane, he was braving oncoming traffic down a small hill around a small curve. Granted, he was on the far right side, but cars were swerving slightly to avoid hitting him.
In that split second I saw him and wondered if he was crazy or simply a man who needed to get somewhere quick. Then I realized that he was smiling and waving a little and remembered that there is a sidewalk on the southbound side of Lamar.
Thus, I concluded that he is crazy. Hopefully he made it to his destination alive.
A few weeks ago on a Saturday morning, a lady was walking in the middle of the right northbound lane on Lamar at 6th.
I concluded then that she too was crazy.
Last year sometime, I witnessed a woman standing on the side of Guadalupe holding up a mayonnaise package and a plastic spoon to the sky.
Yes, she too was crazy.
I like seeing crazy people. They brighten my day.
So do chickens walking on the sidewalk in my neighborhood with buses and traffic passing on all sides. It feels a bit surreal.
Yes indeed-y.
